QAO Leads Celebration of Quality Assurance with UPD Units

The UP Diliman Quality Assurance Office (UPD QAO) held the “Kahusayan: Seremonya ng Pagkilala sa Kagalingan sa QA.” last August 10, 2023 in the Auditorium of the College of Science Administration Building to formally recognize units who have made significant steps in institutionalizing quality assurance and to close its third anniversary celebration which consisted of exhibits around the campus and webinars that featured discussions on relevant QA topics. Present during this momentous occasion are officials from the UP Diliman administration, faculty members, and staff representing the units that were organized.

     In her opening message, UPD QAO Director Aura C. Matias reflected on the milestones that the office had achieved for the past three years and how quality assurance evolved to become part of the operations of the University. Director Matias expressed hope that the programs, activities and projects that are being implemented by the UPD QAO will continue to leave an indelible impression in all of the units and will serve to embed the culture of quality in their operations. Director Matias ended her message with a sincere manifestation of gratitude to all the units for their commitment to QA activities and call to action for the institutionalization of sustainable quality management system.

     UP Diliman Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Percival F. Almoro joined the UPD QAO Director Matias in giving recognition to DGUs that were the first to accomplish the Post-Internal Assessment Report and those who have undertaken external program assessment (EQA Types A-F) last year.

     The members of the newly-reconstituted Quality Assurance Committee (QAC) were also introduced by Director Matias. Each academic cluster is represented by two faculty members equipped with quality assurance training.

     UP Diliman faculty members that underwent ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) training from 2022-2023 were also recognized, along with the expectation that they would lead their respective unit in QA activities.

     In closing, UP Diliman Chancellor Edgardo Carlo L. Vistan II congratulated the UPD QAO for actively leading the University in academic and administrative quality assurance since its inception, and the awardees for becoming QA examplars. He expressed storng hopes for the whole University to continue practicing QA as part of daily operations and participating in the initiatives led by the UPD QAO.

     For the remainder of the year, the UPD QAO will continue to assist units that are implementing their activities with funding through the Academic Program Improvement Fund and faculty members who will be participating in QA training through the AUN-QA, provide technical support in university-level activites during external program assessments, provide guidance to College and Department Quality Assurance Officers, coordinate data collection for university rankings and the UP Sustainability Report, and implement capacity-building initiatives.
