The undergraduate degree programs of the College of Media and Communication (CMC)—Journalism, Film, Broadcast Media Arts and Studies, and Communication Research—successfully completed the 4th External Quality Review Visit on April 21 to 23, 2026.
The External Quality Review (EQR) Team was composed of esteemed academic staff from constituent universities within the UP System, including Diliman, Los Baños, and Baguio.
Professor Nina M. Cadiz from the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) served as the Chief and Lead EQR for the Bachelor of Arts in Journalism program. She was assisted by the UPD College of Human Kinetics (CHK) Dean Professor Marla Frances T. Mallari. The Bachelor of Arts in Film program was reviewed by Professor Corazon L. Abansi from the University of the Philippines Baguio (UPB), with support from Professor Roberto Eliseo G. Paulino from the College of Arts and Letters of UP Diliman. Professor Serlie B. Jamias from UPLB was joined by Assistant Professor Marvin Luis C. Sabado from CHK in evaluating the Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Media Arts and Studies program. Meanwhile, the Bachelor of Arts in Communication Research program was evaluated by Assistant Professor Maileenita A. Peñalba from UPB and Professor Ian Kendrich C. Fontanilla from UP Diliman, who currently serves as Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs for Faculty Development of the UP System.

UP Diliman Chancellor Edgardo Carlo L. Vistan II delivered the opening message at the opening session of the External Quality Review Visit.
In his message during the opening session, UP Diliman Chancellor Edgardo Carlo L. Vistan II expressed his appreciation of the willingness and commitment of the College to embracing its quality assurance journey, particularly through participation in the External Quality Assurance (EQA) process. He also shared his anticipation for the outcomes of the evaluation, noting the challenges posed by the evolving media landscape and how the College continues to respond to these changes.
Also present in full support were Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs (Quality Assurance) Professor Alyssa M. Peleo-Alampay, College of Media and Communication Dean Professor Maria Diosa D. Labiste, and UP Diliman Quality Assurance Office (QAO) Director Professor Evangeline C. Amor.
The three-day visit engaged the College’s stakeholders—including students, alumni, employers, academic and administrative staff, and administrators—through a series of interviews conducted both online and in person. The dialogues aimed to assess the effectiveness of the program from diverse stakeholder perspectives and to identify areas for improvement. The visit also included tours of each program’s facilities.
The four undergraduate programs of the College of Media and Communication led the tour of their facilities, explaining how these spaces support teaching and learning activities and stakeholder welfare.
In addition, the UP Diliman QAO organized a tour of university-level facilities, which was followed by a separate closed-door interview with university-level support staff. These activities served as an avenue for the evaluation of the adequacy, quality, and suitability of resources available to stakeholders as well as the competencies of service providers and the overall level of institutional support that sustains them.
The External Quality Reviewers visited key university offices, including the Office of Scholarships and Grants, University Health Service, Office of Counseling and Guidance, and the Office of the University Registrar. The tour was followed by an interview of the university-level support staff.
The closing session was attended by Chancellor Edgardo Carlo L. Vistan II, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Professor Maria Vanessa P. Lusung-Oyzon, and UPD QAO Director Professor Evangeline C. Amor.
During the session, each pair of external quality reviewers presented their preliminary findings on their assigned programs, highlighting the strengths and areas for improvement of the programs based on the eight-point criteria of the AUN-QA framework. Professor Cadiz delivered the synthesis of the initial findings from the visit and outlined the next steps for the College following the review. She also thanked the College for its warm welcome and full cooperation throughout the EQA process and emphasized how it will help drive meaningful improvements for the College and its stakeholders.

Chancellor Vistan, in his closing message, called on the College to take the EQA process as a renewed pledge to uphold its mission to deliver quality academic programs and affirm its standing as the nation’s pillars for truth, creativity, and social responsibility.

The symposium brought together UP administrators, QA officers, and support staff to reflect on the University’s contributions to the SDGs and explore ways to further align academic and research efforts with the UN 2030 Agenda.
The UP Diliman Quality Assurance Office (UPD QAO) marked the institutionalization of the UP Quality Policy last April with a month-long celebration themed Pagpapatuloy, emphasizing the University’s sustained dedication to excellence and continuous improvement.
To strengthen the engagement of various quality assurance stakeholders in the University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD), the UPD Quality Assurance Office held a two-day QA General Assembly last March 3 and March 10, 2025 at the Bulwagang Tandang Sora, College of Social Work and Community Development, participated by 248 members of the UPD community across the 87 academic and administrative units.
To reinforce the foundational knowledge gained from the series of onsite training for the Phase 1 of the ISO 21001:2018 EOMS Certification Project, the UP Diliman Quality Assurance Office (UPD QAO) successfully conducted multiple sessions of Process Mapping and Risk Management Coaching from November 2024 to February 2025.
7 undergraduate degree programs from UP Diliman Extension Program in Pampanga, College of Fine Arts, and College of Social Work and Community Development completed two batches of external review visits last November 20-22 and November 27-29, 2024, with external quality reviewers hailing from UP Diliman and UP Los Baños. This brings the total of undergraduate degree programs that have undergone external quality assurance to 27 in 2024.
The UP Diliman Office for the Advancement of Teaching (OAT) and Quality Assurance Office (QAO) held two Outcome-Based Education (OBE) workshops in September and November 2024. The workshops focused on aligning learning outcomes and syllabus design to support academic units in revising curricula and developing Self-Assessment Reports (SAR).
