The UP Diliman Quality Assurance Office (UPD QAO) marked the 2025 Quality Assurance (QA) Month with a series of activities held throughout April and May for the stakeholders of the University. Through a combination of in-person and virtual fora and workshops, the UPD QAO provided platforms for dialogue, learning, and collaboration as part of a broader effort to embed QA more deeply into UP’s academic and administrative culture, processes, and workflows.

At its core, the celebration was about keeping the momentum—sustaining meaningful conversations and keeping QA alive and relevant in the Diliman community. This year’s theme, Pagpapatuloy, aims to capture the essence of QA in higher education and the role of individuals and institutions in UP Diliman in ensuring quality. Three major activities were thoughtfully organized to bring together different groups who are greatly involved in various QA processes.

QA Workshop for Support Staff

Last April 29, 2025, the UPD QAO brought together administrative staff, research, extension, and professional staff (REPS), and QA Officers for the QA Workshop for Support Staff held at the Isabelo De Los Reyes Auditorium in the School of Labor and Industrial Relations.

The workshop, led by Professor Evangeline C. Amor, tackled key challenges surrounding data ownership and management—issues that directly affect the timely, complete, and efficient submission of critical reports like the Self-Assessment Report, the Internal Academic Assessment and Development System (iAADS) report, documentation for university rankings, and physical accomplishment reports for the Performance-Based Monitoring System. The participants were also given a refresher on the directions set by the administration of UP President Angelo Jimenez and UPD Chancellor Edgardo Carlo Vistan with regard to quality assurance, the continuous quality improvement framework, and interfaces of support staff in QA processes such as the Citizen’s Charter, deployment of feedback mechanisms, data gathering and analysis, and documentation.

Prof. Evangeline Amor discussed challenges in data ownership and management and shared best practices for submitting key reports.

The participants shared their knowledge of data being collected and processed by their units, the owners and processors of these data, concerns and issues encountered during data collection, analysis, and maintenance, and recommendations on how these issues can be resolved or avoided.

Participants actively engaged in the breakout sessions by exchanging insights and raising relevant concerns on data management and reporting.

API Forum for Project Proponents

A week later on May 5, 2025, the UPD QAO hosted the Academic Program Improvement (API) Forum for Project Proponents at the Seminar Room C of the National Engineering Center. The workshop was organized to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to monitor their approved budget, and advise the project leaders about proper allocation, timely utilization of resources, and accurate reporting throughout the project’s duration.

Online QA Forum for Students

To develop an appreciation for quality assurance, the UPD QAO also reached out to one of the University’s key stakeholders—the students—through the Online QA Forum held last May 19, 2025.

Students came from a diverse range of programs, including BS Library and Information Science, BS Computer Science, BS Business Administration, BS Geodetic Engineering, BS Computer Engineering, BA Communication Research, BA Broadcast Media Arts and Studies, BA Film, and BS Industrial Engineering.

The online forum was facilitated by Assistant Professors Jon Paul F. Maligalig (CEd), Karleen May C. Reodique (CSWCD), and Yhna Therese P. Santos (SLIS), all of whom have undergone ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) Training and serving in different QA capacities in their respective units.

During the forum, the resource persons introduced important concepts such as the Self-Assessment Report (SAR) framework and External Quality Assurance (EQA) processes, explaining how these tools help develop and enhance academic standards and other student engagement activities. They also emphasized the lasting value of QA, highlighting its relevance not only during their stay in the university but also as a crucial foundation for their future careers.

Through these engagements, the UPD QAO continues to bring quality assurance to the forefront and help stakeholders better understand their roles in building and upholding quality in and across all levels of the institution. Moving forward, the UPD QAO remains steadfast in its mission to promote excellence, encourage accountability, and embed QA as an integral part of the Tatak UP.
