UP Diliman QAO hosts SAR Writing Workshop for UPD, UPM degree programs

UP Diliman Quality Assurance Office (UPD QAO) successfully concluded the 2026 Self-Assessment Report (SAR) Writing Workshop pilot program, with UP Diliman Institute of Chemistry (IChem) and UP Manila Department of Physical Sciences and Mathematics (DPSM) SAR writers completing the three-day lecture workshop led by Prof. Dr. Amelia Peralta Guevara, esteemed ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) Lead Assessor, at The Learning Commons, College of Engineering Library, UP Diliman on March 9, 16, and 23, 2026.

Participants from the UP Diliman Institute of Chemistry and UP Manila Department of Physical Sciences and Mathematics during the workshop sessions.

Reviewers and observers from the UP Manila College of Pharmacy, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Allied Medical Professions (CAMP), College of Nursing, National Teacher Training Center for the Health Professions (NTTCHP), and UP Diliman College of Social Sciences and Philosophy also joined the three-day pilot program.

In her Opening Message, UP Diliman QAO Director Evangeline Amor welcomed the SAR Writing Teams for the BS Chemistry program of the IChem, as well as the team for the BS Applied Physics program of DPSM. Director Amor also provided an overview of the three-day program, “This SAR Writing Workshop is actually a new format. The difference with this year’s batch is that this is more focused in a sense that Dr. Guevara will discuss what is required per criterion in the AUN-QA programme level [framework], and be more focused because of the small number of participants.”

During the lecture workshop series, Dr. Guevara introduced the AUN-QA Programme Framework as adopted by the UP System QA focusing on the quality of inputs, processes, and outputs. Criteria 1 to 4 contextualize program-related criteria; Criteria 5 to 7 discuss resource-related criteria, while Criterion 8 emphasizes results-related criteria.

“QA assesses or reviews the program and not the SAR. However, a clearly written SAR, focused on addressing the different criteria and the requirements under each criterion of the AUN-QA Framework can not be overemphasized,” Dr. Guevara highlighted in her lecture sessions.

“My purpose in this workshop is to guide you on how to come up with your SAR that is focused on addressing the requirements under each criterion, with complete sources of evidence to support statements you make in the SAR,” Dr. Guevara said.

Concluding the three-day workshop, SAR writers and observers shared their reflections. Asst. Prof. Ramon Jose Bagunu of UP Manila Department of Physical Sciences and Mathematics shared his biggest takeaway,  “It’s not the SAR. It’s the program that is being evaluated.” Meanwhile, Asst. Prof. Jean Flor Casauay of UP Manila Department of Clinical, Social and Administrative Pharmacy highlighted her reflections on “Alignment, Continuous Improvement and Stakeholder Involvement”.

The SAR Workshop, organized by the Internal Quality Assurance unit of the UPD QAO, will help support the BS Chemistry and UP Manila BS Applied Physics programs as they are slated to undergo AUN-QA programme assessments in 2027.
